This comical satire on the plight of Indian farmers and farmers’ suicides which had appealed to the hearts of the Indian audience and made them roll with laughter, has managed to beat all other contestants in the selection of the Indian movie for the Best Foreign Film category at the Oscars. The Film Federation of India (FFI) committee in Chennai, selected this movie by débutante director Anusha Rizvi on Friday. “This movie was chosen because it depicts the stark reality about farmers in India but deals with it in a light-hearted manner,” said FFI president L Suresh, adding that ‘Angaadi Theru’ — a Tamil blockbuster that completed 100 days in most theatres it was screened at — was a close competitor for top spot.

Aamir Khan is floating high! This is his fourth film as a producer after ‘Lagaan’, ‘Rang De Basanti’ and ‘Taare Zameen Par’ which has been chosen as India’s official selction for the Oscars. Of these, only ‘Lagaan’ made it to the shortlist though.

The other films which had been screened for selection included ‘Udaan’, ‘Rajneeti’, ‘Paa’, ‘My Name is Khan’, ‘Raavan (Tamil)’, ‘Angadi Theru (Tamil)’, ‘Abhormaan (Bengali)’ and other popular names.

Reports further suggest that many Hollywood filmmakers are keen to work with Hrithik and have already started sending feelers to the actor. Since, the actor is busy with the shooting of his films at the moment, such requests are being pushed to a period when he has adequate time to mull over them and think of a possible Hollywood venture.

Yeah, Judwaa 2 is the current buzz of the circles. And it is heard that the story has been finalised and Salman has also given his consent for the second innings. Director David Dhawan and producer Sajid Nadiadwala in fact had the sequel plans much earlier but Salman wasn’t happy with the script all these days. And now when they have come up with an apt story, the makers decided to take the project ahead. They said to have gone back to the story board repeatedly to ensure Judwaa has very high novelty value, revealed Sajid. “Before making Judwaa 2 we first had to make sure the plot not only went further than the first Judwaa but also goes beyond all the other double-role films that have come lately,” said Sajid.

The producer stated that David is working on giving Salman’s character a special new spin. “We’ll give the two Salmans a very different look and the story moves ten years ahead but Salman is still as boyish as he used to be,” shared Sajid.

Unlike the original Judwaa’s sequel wouldn’t have Karisma Kapoor and Rambha. Instead, Kareena is rumoured to be in the discussions.

Ravi also claims that he will point a finger at current members of the Indian team, accusing them of betting. Though he admits he cannot take names, Ravi says the suggestions in his film will be enough for audiences to know which cricketers he is talking about.

Ravi says that India’s defeat at the hands of minnows Bangladesh in the last World Cup compelled him to explore the angle of match fixing in cricket.

“Being a state-level player myself, I just could not digest the fact that we could loose to Bangladesh after upsetting Australia in just a match before. I have had to edit certain parts as the public would have been heart broken had they found out the entire truth.”

Farah was reportedly keen to sign Asin after she invited her on the show ‘Tere Mere Beach Mein’ but, as per sources, it was Asin’s father who suggested her not to sign the film. The actress consults her father before signing any film. However, the movie’s script is still in working stages but the kind of anticipation surrounding it is mind-boggling. May be it’s because of the film’s early announcement or SRK-Farah’s smashing combination.

Now, rumour has it that actresses like Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Kapoor and even Deepika Padukone can be considered for the lead role opposite SRK.

However bizzare it might sound, it is spinning around in the rumor-mills. The movie, to be titled The Social Network is written by Aaron Sorkin. Justin Timberlake and Jesse Eisenberg have been picked for the lead roles. Eisenberg will play Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and the SexyBack singer will take on the role as Facebook’s first president and Napster co-founder, Sean Parker. The story, according to Variety will tell of the creation of the social network and the impact it had on the Harvard classmates who invented it.

Film-makers will pick up anything and make a movie out it these days!!

The three were awarded the doctorates at the institution’s Anna Centenary Special Convocation here. Rehman, who won two Oscars for his score in ‘Slumdog Millionaire,’ was awarded the Doctorate for his “globally and locally reverberating music”.

It so happened that in the breaks between his shots he went on to chat with the shopkeepers of Delhi’s Connaught Place area, where he was shooting. He candidly asked them which films they were looking forward to watch. To his surprise, everyone one he spoke to named only one film– Love Aaj Kal. Aamir was left smiling. It is not known whether Aamir passed on this message to Saif, but it seems like Love Aaj Kal is a sure fire hit even before its release!
